A lot has happened since my last blog post.  I am so proud to be the principal of the Early College High School program.  The students never cease to impress me for what they do each and every day inside and outside the classrooms.   Academic Decathlon  The Academic Decathlon team did such an amazing job on Saturday, Feb. 2nd competing in the North Bay Regional competition.  The entire team is this week's ECHS students of the week!  The students won 50 individual medals and the team finished in 6th place overall! Art Show On Monday, Feb. 4th ECHS helped kick of the Black History Month activities here at Solano College.  The art work was displayed in the 1400 fishbowl area and really impressed college students and staff who visited the show throughout the day.  If you missed it, here are some of the pieces.  Many of the pieces are also now up in a display case in the 100 building.   ...

In the Classrooms What a great week here at Early College High School!  I had the pleasure of watching many of the seniors sing songs they wrote about different types of economies in Economics class.  The lyrics the students wrote showed they understood the learned concepts and the performances were certainly entertaining.  The students sang to background music from Migos, CeeLo Green, the theme song from the Fresh Prince, and much more. Thursday, I visited the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade College Readiness classes.  The students in each of the classes were working in their tutorial groups.  These AVID style tutorials provide an opportunity for each students to write out their point of confusion from either a high school or college class.  The group members help each other by asking questions, providing clarification, and checking for understanding.  There was some great student collaboration and critical thinking taking place...

Spring Semester The ECHS students have finished their third week of high school classes and second week of college classes.  We have had a great start to the spring semester!  Students should have all their college textbooks or have ordered them with me.  If there are any students that still need textbooks please come and see me asap. I have mentioned this in the blog multiple times before, but we continue to underutilized the tutoring center on campus.  The tutoring is free and all they have to do to attend is to submit a special admissions form.  As of today, less than 20 students have signed up.  This is such a great resource for help with college classes! Students who need help with their high school classes will continue to be supported in our after school SAS tutoring every Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00 with the ECHS teachers.  We are also continuing our Peer Tutoring  during the school day  Monday and Wednesdays from 1:00-...

8th grade Open House Wednesday we hosted 8th grade students and their families after school here at ECHS.  We had 32 amazing students serve as tour guides.  The students showed the 8th graders and their parents around the campus, discussed the program, and answered questions.   Applications for 9th grade Fall enrollment will be accepted January 22nd - February 6th. ECHS Alumni ECHS/SCC graduate Rico Pelcher visited College Readiness classes and spoke to the current ECHS students on Thursday.  Rico gave advice to the students and shared experiences from last semester at CSU Fullerton.  Rico also came and spoke with 8th graders and families Wednesday night during the Open House event.  Multiple other ECHS alumni came back to visit staff during our December teacher work day.  It is so great to see the alumni from last year's first graduating class and hear about how wonderful they are doing at the various four-year univer...
