In the Classrooms

What a great week here at Early College High School!  I had the pleasure of watching many of the seniors sing songs they wrote about different types of economies in Economics class.  The lyrics the students wrote showed they understood the learned concepts and the performances were certainly entertaining.  The students sang to background music from Migos, CeeLo Green, the theme song from the Fresh Prince, and much more.

Thursday, I visited the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade College Readiness classes.  The students in each of the classes were working in their tutorial groups.  These AVID style tutorials provide an opportunity for each students to write out their point of confusion from either a high school or college class.  The group members help each other by asking questions, providing clarification, and checking for understanding.  There was some great student collaboration and critical thinking taking place.  I thought the 12th grade student mentors were great in assisting with the 9th and 10th grade student tutorials.  It is clear the staff at ECHS has created a rigorous and supportive learning environment for all students.

Black History Month

The Black History Month activities kick off Monday at Solano College with an Art Show put on by Early College students.  We are very excited for this event.  The art work will be on display in the Building 1400 Fishbowl from 10:00-2:00.  The art show is open to the public and we encourage everyone to come on by.

There is a Genealogy Project that is open to our students on Wednesday from 12:00-2:00 and a screening of the movie Black Panther on Thursday night at 5:00pm in the theater.

Ringing the Bells

Major Randy Hartt from the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Suisun, came to Early College Friday at lunch.  He brought out the trophy that we won for the third year in a row!  He talked to the students that participated in the Ringing the Bells event about community service and how the money raised is used to support people in need in the community.

Student of the Week

The ECHS student of the week is 9th grader Emma Holland.  Emma was nominated for student of the week by both her Math and College Readiness teachers.  Emma has been working hard and did very well on her last Math test which raised her overall grade to an A.  Emma is also willing to share school supplies with others and has also been helping out some of her fellow classmates both academically and socially.  Keep up the great work Emma!

Parent Group

We had a great meeting on Monday night.  We did an activity where we looked at the 9th grade students' first semester reflections.  The parents in attendance then gave feedback from the parent perspective and made suggestions for program improvements.  We also discussed topics like mindfulness, RHS activities, the ECHS school calendar, academic support, and College Readiness.  Our next meeting is scheduled for February, 25th from 6:00-7:00pm in portable classroom room 1104.

RHS Night Rally

Rodriguez High School is holding their first ever night rally.  This is great for ECHS and will give our students a chance to attend and participate.  The rally is Friday, February 22nd from 6:00-8:00pm at RHS in the gym.  The rally will feature the REU Drumline, RHS Cheer, The Next Kidz dance group, and a dance hosted by DJ Sammy.

Academic Decathlon

The ECHS Academic Decathlon team is competing in the Solano County competition today in the Solano College gym.  I will be there later to wish them luck in the Super Quiz portion of the competition at 3:00pm.  If you are able to come by, it is fun to watch and cheer them on.  The topic for the quiz this year is the 1960's.  Good luck team!
