We are Mustangs!  We are Falcons!  We are Pegasus!

Early College High School students are Mustangs, Falcons, and Pegasus.  Our first graduation class (class of 2018) came up with the idea of the Pegasus to represent our program.  However, ECHS is not a standalone school.  We are a program of Rodriguez High School.  Many of our students play on Rodriguez High School sports teams, attend after school activities and dances, and are proud to also be Mustangs!

Every ECHS student is also a Solano College Falcon.  Our students take SCC college classes, have an opportunity to join college clubs, and (in a non pandemic year) spend a great deal of time on the SCC campus.

Put the Mustang and Falcon together and you have the Pegasus!  If you want to show off your Pegasus pride, we have a limited edition special shirt that is available now through October 16th.  If you would like to order the shirt, here is the link below.  The shirts will arrive at the end of the month and then we will have a drive thru event to pick them up.  The final price of the shirts with tax is $19.87.

Spirit Wear

In addition to the limited edition shirt we have other items that students and families can purchase.  The ECHS store is available throughout the year.  Orders are delivered to the ECHS office here at SCC and we will call you after they arrive and are available for pickup.  Here is a link to the online store and a photo of just a couple of the items available on the ECHS store website.

College Readiness

The highlight of my week was Mrs. Turgeon-Staggs letting me lead the three 9th grade College Readiness classes on Wednesday.  I had the wonderful opportunity interact with our new students and see first hand how amazing the Class of 2024 is!  These 99 students came out of 8th grade classes and started high school and college online.  They are doing an amazing job under these difficult circumstances!

The students got into breakout groups based on what college class they have.  They talked about how things are going and then presented to the rest of the class information about their college classes so their classmates could have a better understanding of what each college class is all about and consider whether or not it may be a good class to choose for next semester.  The spring semester catalog is going to come out later in October and our students will be making second semester college class selections soon.  As part of the class the students filled out a Google form letting me, their counselor Mrs. Mae, and their CR teacher Mrs. Turgeon-Staggs, know how their college class is going for them. They let us know if they would like tutoring and how their experience overall at ECHS is going.  We are following up with any students who reported that they are having any struggles.  We really appreciate any feedback from students and families as we are always working hard to make positive changes and make sure this is the best possible program for all our students.  Next week I look forward to joining the 10th grade College Readiness classes.

Student of the Week

11th grader Nazingha Joyeux is the ECHS Student of the Week!  Nazingha made the honor roll by earning over a 3.5 GPA last semester.  In her first two years of high school she has already completed 23 college units.  This semester she is off to a great start in all of her high school and college courses.  She is currently taking Spanish 2 and Introduction to Kinesiology.  She has the goal to become an Athletic Therapist.  Great job Nazingha!

ECHS Club Spotlight

Francessca Callahan is our HOPE club President.  The HOPE club meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month during lunch.  The advisors are Mrs. Nance and Mrs. Mae.

Here is a message from Francessca:

H.O.P.E club is an open space for everyone where we help to destress students and create a positive place for students to come and speak their mind so they don't feel alone. H.O.P.E stands for happy, open-minded, positive environment. Our goal is to destigmatize mental health and educate people on the signs and effects of mental health. We want a space where everyone can feel welcome and gain resources for various issues.

Pegasus Post

Our first ever online student newspaper comes out next week!  The students will get it Monday and I will post a link to it in next week's blog.
