Distance Learning Schedule
Here is our Distance Learning Schedule that starts on Monday 8/17. We reduced the amount of Live "Synchronous" instruction to help our students avoid so much required time in front of the computer screen. In addition to the required Live Instruction students have "Academic Time" as part of their schedule each day. Academic time isn't required to be done online but is a required part of the student's school day. Please see our definitions below the schedule for more detail on Live Instruction, Academic Time, and Office Hours.
On Fridays students have 10 minutes of Live Daily Instruction for each class. Students are required to log into their class. Their teacher will have live instruction, take attendance, and assign 40 minutes of asynchronous work for the student to complete later in the day.
*There have been some changes from the version we reviewed during Orientation. We will be reviewing this schedule with the students during College Readiness classes on Monday and Tuesday to make sure everyone has a clear understanding of the schedule and work expectations.
DEFINITIONS:
LIVE INSTRUCTION (Synchronous) - 110 minutes per class per week (55 x 2 - block schedule) with an additional 10 minutes per class once a week (Fridays only). Live instruction will be synchronous instruction via Google Meet. Students are required to attend and attendance will be taken. During this time, teachers may deliver direct instruction, facilitate peer-to-peer collaboration and discussion, conduct whole-class discussions, provide lectures, administer assessments, or demonstrate work examples (such as mathematical equations). Students may be required to give live presentations or to work collaboratively during this time.
ACADEMIC TIME (Asynchronous)- 90 minutes per class per week (45 x 2 - block schedule) with an additional 40 minutes per class once a week (Fridays only). Academic Time scheduled directly after the Live Instruction is part of the student and teacher school day. Students will be assigned 45 minutes of independent learning/graded classwork per period that can be completed during this time. This work may be completed independently (offline), in peer groups (offline/online), or online with the teacher’s guidance. Teachers may require students to meet with them during this time, to present their learning, etc.
NOTE: Teachers may schedule individual or small group appointments with students for additional support or small group discussions and projects.
Office Hours: Office hours are by appointment only for extra support, extra help, Q&A, grade conferencing, etc. Teachers will provided a sign-up sheet weekly so that students or parents may make appointments. Attendance will not be taken during office hours and does not count toward instructional minutes or student grades. Scheduled Peer Tutoring may occur during office hours as well.
Extra Help and Support for Student
Our School After School support runs every Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00pm. We are starting on Thursday 8/20 with Math support with Mrs. Freitas and Mrs. Turgeon-Staggs and then will move to other subjects with other teachers in September as needed.
We are also working on arranging Peer Tutoring for during the school day. More information will be coming out next week as we work to get this set up.
Some of our returning ECHS students gave some feedback and helpful tips for our new students. Thank you to Jacob Francisco and Prynces Perez for presenting to our new students during orientation. Here are some of the slides they shared.

College Textbooks and Online Access Codes
We are working hard to get the college textbooks checked out to students. Susan Harris and Beth Davisson are processing the student's requests as they come in. Some books we have and others need to be ordered. As students start their college classes and find out exactly what they need, please have them submit the information via the Google Form. Once they do, Mrs. Harris or Mrs. Davisson will email them to make arrangements to pick the books up by appointment from our office here at Solano College.
Students, if you are unclear about the process or need help, the College Readiness teachers will be working with you next week.
*If any students missed our high school book checkouts this week, please email susanharr@fsusd.org for a makeup appointment time to come and get your materials asap.
Student Clubs
At ECHS we have at least one student club taking place every day of the week during lunch time. We highly encourage students to join at least one club. Some of the clubs from last year will be on pause until we return in person and others will continue to meet virtually. ECHS Leadership will be hosting this year's annual Club Rush on Thursday and Friday August 20-21. Be sure to stay tuned for more information on how to get involved. They will be posting the links Thursday morning.
A new club we have this year is the Black Student Union. Students and staff met today to work on getting everything off the ground and ready for Club Rush.
First Week
We had a great first week here at ECHS. I am so proud of the students and staff for adjusting to Distance Learning and being so positive and engaged in the learning. I had the pleasure of joining many of the Google Meets and I plan to visit more throughout the coming week. Next week our students begin their journey of attending both high school and college classes. I wish you all the best and I look forward to an amazing year here at ECHS!
Great first week! Excited for the school year!
