ECHS Mental Health Awareness Week
Dec 3 - 7, 2018
Next week we are going to have a Mental Health Awareness Week here at ECHS. During College Readiness class the teachers will be doing mini-lessons on depression, anxiety, and self-care. The students will watch short videos, have class discussions, and receive support resources. We will also be wearing green ribbons all week to show support for mental health. We see this as such an important topic especially at this time of the year with the holidays and final exams coming up. This can be a very stressful time and we want all of our students to be healthy and know that there are supports out there for them if needed.
Canned Food Drive
We are having a class competition supporting the Contra Costa and Solano Food Bank. Canned foods are now being collected. 11th and 12th grade students drop their cans off in room 1635. 9th and 10th grade students drop cans off in 1101.
Toys for Tots
We are also collecting new unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Every year Officer Holocek at Rodriguez High School leads a toy drive and ECHS is happy to participate. If you are able to donate a toy please do and it will go to a child from a family in need for the holidays.

Student of the Week
Claire Genter is the ECHS Student of the Week! Claire played a huge part in organizing the first ever Improv show here at ECHS. She did a great job as the show's host. The show was super fun and raised money for the ECHS Drama club. Claire also works on the tech crew for Temple Hill Events on the productions of Scrooge the Musical and The Nutcracker in Oakland. Clarie has done very well here at ECHS with both her high school and college classes! Keep up the great work Claire!
ECHS Parent Group
The ECHS parent group met on Monday night this week. I really appreciate having the opportunity to share things that are going on at ECHS with parents in person and getting to hear their feedback. We are not meeting in December but will meet monthly next semester. The next meeting is Monday, January 28 in room 1104 from 6:00-7:00pm and is open to all ECHS parents.
There is also ECHS parent group run by our Parent Leaders Marilyn Barker and Gina Gonzales. The group is set up for parents to have a chance to connect with each other. If you would like to join the group search ECHS parents on facebook or use this link: www.facebook.com/groups/echsparents
College Field Trip
Today the ECHS juniors went to UC Davis and Sac State. First stop was UC Davis and the students attended a presentation on applying to a UC and then took an hour walking tour of the UC Davis campus. The students then got back on the bus to head to Sacramento to check out Sac State. We are so happy we got good weather!
