2nd Week
Tutoring Support
Our goal at Early College High School is to prepare each and every student to be able to get into and graduate from a 4-year university. We want every student to meet the A-G college entrance requirements. It is very important that our students earn a C or higher in every class (high school and college). We ensure there are supports as needed in order to assist students to achieve these goals.
School After School
Our ECHS teachers are here to support students with their high school classes after school on Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00. We started yesterday and we would like to see more students take advantage of this support.
Freshman Intervention
We have arranged to have classroom 443 (upstairs in the 400 building) every Friday from 10:00-11:00 to support students. This is during 5th period which every 9th grader has free on Fridays. School Counselor Mae Valles will be there every week to help students with organization, study skills, time management, or just answer any questions they might have. Along with Ms. Mae in room 443 will be two of our amazing 12th grade students, Weslynn and Angelica. They are peer tutors who help students with work in any subject especially Math.
*Weslynn and Angelica are also available to help students with math during 5th period every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00-11:50 in Ms. Williamson's room 1635.
College Support
Our 9th and 10th grade College Readiness classes visited the SCC Library/Tutoring Center this week. Many of our students are already signed up for tutoring. The tutoring center has supports for all SCC students in pretty much every college class. All ECHS students are able to access the tutoring center but they need to sign up. Tutoring support is added to the Special Admissions form just like adding a class. The difference is it doesn't go on the transcript and there are no units for it. We highly encourage students who may need any extra help with a college classes to sign up asap.
College Textbooks
The first week of college classes has finished. Every student should have already submitted their textbook requests. Many books have been picked up by the students at the campus bookstore. Other books have been ordered online and have already come in and others will be coming in next week.
*It is the student's responsibility to come to my office during their break or at lunch to submit a textbook request or let me know about an online account that is needed for a class. The last three days I have stayed in my office during lunch to make sure I am available to students and they know where to find me. I will be in my office again on Monday and Tuesday during lunch to assist students.
Athletics/PE
9th grade PE teacher and RHS Athletic Director Tracy Cordes is on campus every Friday afternoon. If any students need to talk with her about RHS sports they can come to room 1779 at the end of lunch or right after 6th period. Ms. Cordes can also be reached at TracyC@fsusd.org
The 9th graders all have PE either 4th period or 6th period Fridays for 1 hour. The rest of the week the students are expected to continue their workouts through independent study and complete their fitness logs for Ms. Cordes. Today when I came by the 4th period students were beginning class with warm-up run.
Visiting Classrooms
I had the pleasure of taking some visitors from our district office around to classrooms. Every class we visited had students fully engaged in lessons. The students and staff at ECHS are truly amazing!
