Fun Fitness Challenge

The ECHS staff is competing with school staffs from other sites around the district.  We are tracking our steps daily from March 12th through April 12th.  Our goal is to encourage each other to be active, healthy, and have some fun in a friendly competition.

As we compete with other adult staff members from other schools, we are challenging students to form teams to compete against us.  Students with step counting watches or phones with a step tracking app can have fun trying to beat our totals. We want all of our students to be active and healthy.  We hope a lot of students decide to participate with us, especially the 9th graders that need to record their exercises already with their PE logs.

Student Agreement and Expectations

I visited College Readiness classes today and handed out the Student Agreement and Expectations.  This is required for students and parents to sign to secure a spot at ECHS next school year.  These forms are due back to the College Readiness teachers on March 9th.  Students who didn't receive a form today can see me or their College Readiness teacher on Monday.

Interventions and Support

We continue to highly recommend that any students that are struggling in a college class to go to the SCC Tutoring Center.  This is such a great resource for SCC students.  ECHS students are SCC students, please use take advantage of this support for college classes.

Students who need additional support with their high school classes have School After School available to them.  Ms. Freitas provides help in Math and Ms. Smith provides help in English every Monday from 3:00-4:00.  Mr. Voyce provides help in Science and Ms. Williamson provides help with Social Science and Edgenuity every Thursday from 3:00-4:00.

The expectation for all ECHS stuudents is to maintain a C grade or higher in every class (high school and college).

In addition, we have Freshman Intervention every Friday from 2:00-3:00 in room 1104.  School Counselor Ms. Valles is meeting with 9th grade students to work on organization, study skills, self advocacy, and much more.  Students will also form structured study groups during this time.  This intervention is required for any 9th grade student earning below a C in a class but is also open to any student that would like to attend.

Parent Surveys

Thank you to all the parents who took the time to do the School Effectiveness Survey.  We have one more survey that I will be emailing out today.  It is the ECHS Bell Schedule Evaluation.  This survey doesn't take more than a couple of minutes and will help us look at our schedule for next school year.  Your feedback is very much appreciated.

Senior Trip

Tickets for the senior trip to Great America on June 1st go on sale Monday.  Seniors who would like to attend can buy their ticket from me at lunch.  The cost for the first 200 students from ECHS and RHS is $65.  After the first 200 tickets are sold a waitlist will be started to see if there are enough students to get additional buses for the trip.  The price will also go up to $95 per student to cover the additional buses.  Seniors that want to go, please get your tickets asap to guarantee your spot.

World Civ Presentations

Students in World Civ. were presenting in groups on Tuesday.  I was able to see a few groups and I was very impressed. The students were well prepared and created videos, maps, interactive quizzes, slides, and review questions to help their classmates learn about different countries government and history.

Academic Conversations

Academic conversations continue to take place in all our classes at ECHS.  I had the pleasure of visiting a Math 2 class and a Math 3 class on Wednesday and in both classes students were engaged in academic conversations with each other.  Students were working in partners and small groups listening and responding to each other.  Solving problems collaboratively is a skill that is really benefiting the ECHS students.

Leukemia Society

ECHS is participating in the Pennies for Patients drive to help support the Leukemia Society.  There is a collection box in every classroom.  Any 1st period class that collects over $300 will get a prize.  Any change students bring in helps out.
